Highway to Healing Responds to Families Traveling to Medical Appointments

Apr 6, 2023

The Oliver Rotary Club started the Highway to Healing in 2013 in an effort to support families in the area who travelled outside the community for medical appointments. Last year $24,000 was disbursed to 90 different families in Okanagan Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos, including $1000 dollars donated by the Rotary Club of Osoyoos. The Society hopes to expand to Keremeos and area, but that is dependent on funds available.

Funding supports families from babies still in utero to 19 years of age for fuel and transportation with the goal of trying to respond within 24 hours. Highway to Healing seeks referrals when families in crisis need support including providing cash for small trips in the region, to Vancouver and beyond. Families have to prove they have a medical appointment (there is no means test). Allocation of funds ranges from $70 to $3,000 or more dollars. Tracey and Brock indicated they area looking for new Board members.
